Hello 170V-forum

As stated I am a newbie in this forum, and I am also a newbie regarding the handling of a 170.
I newly bought a 170Sb which is in a fair technical condition and in a good condition regarding corrosion, paint and outer chrome parts. There still are things to be done in the years to come. The gearbox is a little difficult to slide into 1. gear and the sync from 3. to 2. could be better. I can live with that for now!
The coming winter I will concentrate on the interior and especially the dashboard…it´s not a beautiful sight and some of the wiring needs care.
I hope the forum will help me answering the following questions:

I can see that dashboard is held by 5 screws. 2 in the sides and 3 in the top. The top middle can be taken by removing the ashtray….but what about the other two? The space between the dashboard top wood molding and windscreen I too narrow for a wrench. What to do? Do I really have to remove the windscreen? Will there be more screws than the 5 mentioned?
I will have to remove the buttons on the various contacts/choker on the dashboard. How to remove the button on the main light switch?

Best regards

Hi

Light switch:
The chrome ring must be winded counter clockwise and then you can remove the complete crome handle.
The electrical contact you then can put into the backside of the dashboard.
And the tsame for most of the other buttons.

Dashboard removal:
First you have to remove the wood moulding. I think that there is a screw at the right and the left side that you can reach from under the dashboard with a long schrewdrever.

Dashboard steel part:
One small screw at the right low and one at the left low sidepanel.
Perhaps one screw under the ashtray

Hello Claus, the removal is described in the Workshop Manual (see attachment). Sorry that the photos are not very clear. Maybe Lasse (braveman) has some better ones.

Hi Lars and Jan Ivar

Thank you so much for your answers. I have to get started.. perhaps my
questions are basic to an experienced 170 owner but to me they are essential
not to destroy anything not knowing how to do the right way.

Best regards

Claus

Hi,

No problem. Just ask.
During almost 10 years I renovated my 170Sb 1953 totally from a naked frame.
But now it is 20 years since it was completed. And I forget details.
I have a lot of photos taken during the disambling.

Videos showing my 170Sb (perhaps blocked in Germany because of copyright issiues with the music)
